In his Daily Order for the National Anniversary of October 28, 1940, o Nikos Dendias addressing the Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, Soldiers, Sailors, Crewmen, National Guardsmen, Reservists and Civilian Personnel of the Armed Forces, states:

“Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, Soldiers, Sailors, Servicemen, National Guardsmen, Reservists and Civilian Personnel,

Today is not just a reminder of a glorious moment in the past. It recommends viewing elements of the national collective memory of a historical example.

84 years ago our ancestors stood unyielding in the face of the fascist plot. They defended the freedom of our Motherland, highlighting our national dignity.

Fronting the Armed Forces, the uniformed expression of civil society, they expressed the common collective perception of resistance, defending ideals and values that guide our national course through time and many giving their most valuable asset, their very lives, as a price of this freedom.

The “NO” of 1940 is a timeless answer to any attempt to question our independence. It represents major symbolism of refusal to submit, rooted in our Greek collective subconscious. Three letter symbolism.

In our days, the possibility to repeat it, if required, is fortified with stable Alliances and above all with strong Greek Armed Forces, which effectively protect the Greek, which is also the European borders.

Men and Women of the Armed Forces,

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your services to the Motherland and society.

Your role goes beyond the traditional limit of National Defense and extends to the obligation to offer to society in times of need.

Honor the Anniversary of October 28th in the manner it befits, by sticking to your duties.

National Defense does not allow loopholes. You know that better than anyone.

Your constitutional duty allows no weakness and no complacency.

Long live October 28, 1940!

Long live the Armed Forces!

Long live the Nation!”
