The justice ruled. The two drivers who, on November 24, 2020, successively pulled over with their cars and left an 81-year-old pedestrian on the asphalt, who died, were found guilty.

The court, specifically the Three-member Criminal Court of Rhodes, imposed a prison sentence of 28 months on a resident of Ialyssos and 24 months on a resident of Attica as it found them guilty of manslaughter by gross negligence.

In both, the mitigating factor of the earlier honest life was recognized.

How did the car accident happen?

The traffic accident happened on the National Road of Rhodes Lindos, at the 9th kilometer, at the height of the kennel. The unfortunate man, in his attempt to cross the road on foot, was dragged by a car driven by the 38-year-old, fell on the road and was dragged again by a second car driven by the 53-year-old.

Specifically, according to dimokratiki.gr, the first accused driving his car, in the traffic flow from Lindos to Rhodes, was found guilty for not driving prudently and constantly paying attention, nor exercising the necessary attention on the road and on supervision of his vehicle, he did not maintain absolute control of his vehicle and did not notice the pedestrian who was moving diagonally in order to cross the traffic lanes towards Rhodes of the above provincial road, as a result of which he was dragged away.

As a result of the impact, the 81-year-old was seriously injured, and subsequently, he left him helpless on the road and exposed to the other passing vehicles, although he had a legal obligation to help him, as a result of which he was run over by at least two other passing vehicles, among which the vehicle being driven from the second defendant as well as other unknown vehicles.

As a result of the above, the patient suffered a subarachnoid hematoma of the occipital lobe and cerebellum, a fracture of the first cervical vertebra and a complete dislocation of the head with a complete transection of the spinal cord, multiple fractures of all ribs, amphoma and sternum fracture, mediastinal contusion, hemothorax, laceration and pulping of the left of lung, rupture of pericardium, rupture of ascending aorta, multiple lacerations of the walls of the heart, wide laceration of mesentery, blood and intestinal contents within the peritoneal cavity, lacerations of the capsule of the liver and spleen, multiple lacerations of the small and large intestine, lacerations of both kidneys and pubic dissection adhesions, which caused his death.

The second defendant, driving her car, in the traffic flow from Lindos to Rhodes, acted negligently like the first and because of the passage of her car over his body, the pedestrian was seriously injured, and then she left him helpless on the road and exposed to the other passing vehicles, even though he had a legal obligation to help him, as a result of which he was run over by at least two other unknown passing vehicles.
