The gathered hung banners with the slogan, “Edi Rama ust” and shouted slogans, such as “Rama out of Greece” and “Katsifa lives, you lead us”
Protest rally for the visit of the Prime Minister of Albania, Eddie Rama, in Thessaloniki shortly before the speech he will address to his compatriots living in the country in a hotel in the city, members of the nationalist space held at the western entrance of the city.
According to voria.gr, under draconian security measures, the demonstrators hung banners with the slogan “Edi Rama ust” and held flags of Northern Epirus, with the star of Vergina, but also with Giorgos Kastriotis, on which they wrote that the well-known and as Skanderbegs, he was an Epirotian.
The gathered chanted slogans such as “Rama out of Greece” and “Katsifa lives, you lead us”, while they left leaflets in the cars with the photo of the Greek from Northern Epirus, stating that he was murdered by the Albanian state.
At 11:00 in the morning, a crowd of people enthusiastically welcomed the prime minister of Albania, Edi Rama, at the hotel in Thessaloniki, where he is making a speech to his compatriots.
People gathered early in the hall, where there were strict security measures, with entry not allowed from inside the hotel, but only from the outside door, where x-ray machines were set up. Albanians living in Thessaloniki, as well as others who arrived in the city either by bus or by car from Albania, waited patiently to enter and eventually overwhelmed the hall.
It is noted that this is the second time that Rama has met immigrants in Greece, with the previous meeting having taken place on May 12 in Athens.
According to Albanian media, in his speech Edi Rama referred to the protest rally, saying: “A protest was organized with ridiculous leaflets inspired by the so-called “Northern Epirotians” and they only cause me pity. “Northern Epirotes” is a dead term, over time it has died. And it has died along with every dream of the people who try to ridicule it. Anyone who uses this term when talking about the south of Albania shows that they don’t want to live in the 21st century. They are fossils and a shame.”
Elsewhere in his speech, he asked for the vote of the Albanian community in Thessaloniki, said: “You took the road to your homeland, today you are a voter with full rights” and called “Let’s make Albania a member of the EU by 2030”.
