An emotional scene took place on Saturday night (2/11) at Chaniawhen three young boys passed the police station to hand over to the authorities something they found on the street.

According to ERT, these are three brothers aged 12, 14 and 16, who actually live in the Child and Youth Protection Branch of Chania (former Orphanage) of the Social Welfare Center of the Region of Crete, during a walk they were taking in the center of Chania, they found a wallet lying on the street and picked it up to find contact information. The youths found that the wallet contained the sum of 732 euros in cash and cards.

Without a second thought, the children contacted the women in charge of the structure where they live and together they went to the Chania police station, where they handed over the wallet along with the money to the duty officer, as can be seen in the photos obtained by ERT Chania. The police officers who were in the building congratulated the children for this act, while after a short investigation the owner of the wallet was located and after thanking the children by phone, he promised to visit them at the Protection Center to meet them.

It is worth noting, and it is emphasized by the Center for the Protection of Children and Youth, that the children did not think for a moment to keep the contents of the wallet they found, even though they live life with great difficulty and in special conditions in their early years. Their anxiety was to find the owner and not to think that the object of his possession was stolen and to search for it. It is a powerful moment that proves that there is hope even in the most unexpected places, despite the prejudice and difficulties that children without families experience.
