The financial prosecutor will finally decide whether the case with the complaints of businessman Andreas Vgenopoulos against the former president of the Supreme Court and interim prime minister Vasiliki Thanos will be withdrawn.
The Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Georgios Skiadaresis, who was charged with the study of the case, after the publication of a revealing audio document, sent the file to the Financial Prosecutor’s Office as the only one competent to examine the further course of the case.
The revelation of the audio, a few days ago (iefimerida.gr), where the businessman (who died in 2016 a few months after his complaints against Vasiliki Thanos) is heard talking about providing compensation to the then powerful president of the Supreme Court to settle his criminal case case, put the prosecuting authorities in front of new developments.
That is why the prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Vassilios Pliotas, gave an order to examine the possibility of withdrawing the case, if it is judged that the audio is a new element and in addition if its authenticity is checked.
In any case, if the investigation is reopened, it will be done from scratch, as in 2016, when the relevant allegations were made against Vgenopoulos against Thanos, the investigation that led to the file of the allegations was brief and not substantial.
However, the crucial thing now is whether the new investigation, in case the relevant case is withdrawn, turns to the crime of bribery, which is a crime and has not expired, because otherwise any investigation will move to matters without substance. And this risk lurks if the investigation is made only for the offense of infringement on intermediaries which is a misdemeanor and therefore statute of limitations. Any decision of the Financial Prosecutor’s Office is expected in the near future.
However, the former president of the Supreme Court, against whom Vgenopoulos’s allegations are directed, has denied any involvement in the case, describing it as “myths”, while a similar negative answer has been given by her son, a lawyer who is mentioned in the revealing audio. which recently saw the light of day.
