A gang was dismantled, the members of which carried out robberies in various areas of Attica, using as “bases” mainly stations and lines of the Metro, ISAP and TRAM of Athens.

It was preceded by an investigation in which it was found that since the beginning of 2024, the members of the gang were active in committing robberies and specifically in removing neck chains using physical violence.

21 members of the gang were arrestedof which 14 are minors, while a total of 48 were identified, of which 11 are locked up in detention centers.

A case file was filed against them for – as the case may be – a gang that commits robberies committed or attempted, by profession and by habit, with the pursuit of financial gain and specifically the acquisition of income, violation of residence restrictions as well as violations of the laws on weapons and drugs.

Fear and terror in Elektrikos

The defendants chose the Athens Metro, ISAP and TRAM stations and lines as their place of action, mainly those of “Syntagma”, “Victoria” and “Monastiraki”, as well as squares and streets around them. Next, they approached their victims, from whom they removed either by violent pulling or by using physical violence, the chain they wore around their neck.

In fact, as it was found, during the commission of the robbery they strictly observed countermeasureswhile in several cases they also used various “distraction” trickssuch as hugging, artificial crowding, etc.

So far 129 cases of robberies and attempted robberies have been solvedn, in areas of Athens, in Alimos, Piraeus, Kaisariani, Keratsini, Nea Smyrni, at ISAP and metro stations “Victoria”, “Attiki”, “Ampelokipoi”, “Agios Nikolaos”, “Sepolia”, “Kato Patisia”, “Petralona”, “Syntagma”, “Airport”, “Kerameikos”, “Agios Eleftherios”, “Nicaea”, “Heraklion”, “Faliro”, “Municipal Theater”, “Piraeus”, as well as in the squares of Syntagma, Victoria, Vathi and Monastirakiou.

In searches carried out in houses by the above Service with the assistance of OPKE police officers. and of the Colonos Security Department, were found and confiscated:

– 18 mobile phones, 4 handsets, 4 tablets, SIM card,
– neck chain,
– 3 knives, multi-tool, cutter,
– identity card, 5 passports,
– 655 euros,
– electronic scale, grater,
– electricity bills and
– nylon packaging containing possibly “Indian hemp” with a total gross weight of -0.4- grams.

It is noted that the majority of the defendants have in the past concerned the Authorities for similar crimes.

As part of investigating the case and deconstructing the gang, they were arrested for – as the case may be – various offences, such as possession of narcotics, knives, daggers, forged travel documents, etc. additional 13 people.

The arrested persons were taken to the competent public prosecutor’s office, while in addition, case files will be submitted for neglecting the supervision of the minor defendants, at the expense of both their parents and the competent appointed commissioners.
