There is no risk to the safety of the subway trains, the STASY administration claims in a statement, stating that its operation is governed by modern security systems.

STASY, responding to today’s publication in the newspaper “Ta Nea” which speaks of a risk to the safety of the trains, maintains that the maintenance of the network (structure and rolling stock) is carried out in accordance with the preventive and corrective maintenance manuals and the internationally prescribed rules, which are applied from the start of its operation.

At the same time, he emphasizes that the biggest upgrade project that has been carried out in the Metro is starting, with the announcement of the two relevant tenders for rail replacement, amounting to 8 million. euro.

In particular, with its announcement regarding the announcement of tenders for rail replacement in the Metro, it clarifies that:

  • The largest infrastructure upgrade project ever carried out in the Metro begins, with the announcement of the two related rail change tenders, amounting to 8 million. euro. This is the 32 km changeover project. rail network of Lines 2 and 3 of the Metro and is part of the overall, ongoing plan to upgrade the Metro 25 years after its opening.
  • As stated in the relevant notice, published by STA.SY, the company deems it necessary to carry out the project before the end of the life of the equipment, which is defined as 30 years. The results of the wear limit measurements repeated at regular intervals – and not only 3 years ago – are within the prescribed limits. They demonstrate the need for gradual replacement, in order to maintain the high levels of safe execution of transport work.
  • The project concerns a rail change at specific points (curves) of the network, where the greatest strain is noted during the execution of daily and uninterrupted transport work.
  • The routes are operated according to the winter timetable, which is in force, without affecting their frequencies and causing delays.
  • STA.SY, responding to the questions raised by the article about safety in the Metro network, rejects the allegations in question, categorically stating that the operation of the Metro is governed by the most modern safety systems and that the maintenance of the network (structure and traffic material) is done in accordance with the preventive and corrective maintenance manuals and the internationally prescribed rules, which have been applied since the start of operation of the Metro.
