Relatives, friends, colleagues, employees and citizens will say their last goodbye today Yannis Boutaristhe former mayor of Thessaloniki, businessman and winemaker, who passed away last Saturday at the age of 82.

The civil funeral of Yannis Boutaris will be held in his atrium City Hall of Thessaloniki, where his body will be exposed, from 11 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon, so that the people of Thessalonica can say goodbye to him on his last journey.

His political funeral will be attended by the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou and the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who will deliver speeches, while the president of PASOK – KINAL, Nikos Androulakis, will also be present.

The mayor of Thessaloniki, Stelios Angeloudis, will also make speeches, as will also the Greek Wine Association and a member of the family of Yannis Boutaris.

Afterwards, the body of Yannis Boutaris, who breathed his last on Saturday night, in a private hospital in Thessaloniki, will be cremated – a choice he had made while alive.

Graduated in chemistry from AUTH, qualified oenologist, worked for years with wines and was elected as the 60th mayor of Thessaloniki in 2010, for two consecutive terms, until 2019. He was president of the Holocaust Museum of Greece, founding member of the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and Center for Addicts Support “Oasis”, as well as founder of “Arkturos”. He was honored with many international and national distinctions.
