The body of the 25-year-old domestic worker from Sri Lanka was found in February 2013, floating in the pool of the luxury home where she worked
With the apology of the 39-year-old defendant, the trial for the murder of the 25-year-old domestic helper from Sri Lanka, whose body was found, in February 2013, floating in the pool of the luxury home where he worked, continued for the 11th day at the Five-member Military Court of Thessaloniki. his death attributed to strangulation. The son of the owners of the villa, a soldier at the time, who was the last person to meet the victim alive, is accused as the perpetrator, while his motive – according to court documents – was allegedly sexual.
“I am innocent. This story has been a heavy burden on my family all these years. I am heterosexual. I had no reason and no motivation to do such an act,” was the 39-year-old’s first statement regarding the charge of intentional homicide attributed to him, while at another point in his apology he stated: “I am more a victim than a victim, I am a father two children, I’m not to blame for anything”.
When asked by the headquarters about his own assessment regarding the murder of the 25-year-old, he answered as follows: “They killed him because he was involved somewhere. I don’t know why they threw him in the pool. I’m irrelevant. Maybe because they saw him […] For a while I thought they were thieves…”
He stated that he had only seen the victim three times, that he never went to his room and did not know his schedule. At the time of the murder in question, he reiterated that he was in an internet cafe playing online poker. He was unable to remember whether he had the mobile phone with him, while to several questions – persistent from home – he answered in the same way, saying that “my memory after all these years is on the decline”.
To another question about whether he knows the perpetrator and is covering for him, the 39-year-old answered in the negative, stressing that “if I knew something, I would say it.”
The process was stopped for a while and will continue with the proposal of the district attorney.
It should be noted that the 39-year-old was acquitted 3 years ago, but the Supreme Court overturned the exculpatory decision, with the result that the case will return, from scratch, before the Military Justice.
