A 49-year-old citizen was arrested this afternoon by the Special Violent Crimes Directorate, following a relevant arrest warrant, for the case of finding weapons and explosives in a warehouse of an apartment building in Pagrati.

According to information, the 49-year-old is said to be the one who submitted the rent for the warehouse. In addition, the 49-year-old, who works as a philologist in a tutoring school, had not engaged the authorities in the past.

Chrysochoidis to SKAI: “The weapons in Pagrati were well preserved”

Talking in the morning on his TV and the show “Today» the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidisreferred to the new warehouse-yafka at Pagrati.

As he commented, “I don’t think this specific finding is connected to the case of the explosion in Ampelokipi, however, you never say never in terrorism. The investigations are ongoing, it will be seen through the laboratory and other investigations being carried out, in order to fully demonstrate what exactly happened and who and how are involved in the explosion”.

He emphasized that he would not like to talk about business matters. “Businesses are doing their job and they are doing it well together with the Justice, which will go to all these elements, to really find an end of the thread after and the new revelation of the place where they had here and materials stored for several years, but which were well preserved, which means that this area was visitable».

Asked if other arrests are expected from the two cases, Mr. Chrysochoidis noted:

“Investigations around these issues are ongoing. 15 days ago an entire armory was discovered in Mandra, which means that it is a continuous job. I am personally very satisfied with the work that dedicated officers and junior police officers do to ensure that we all feel and are safe.”

It is reminded that pistols, submachine gun, grenades, detonators, a quantity of dynamite and ammonia nitrate, among other things, were found by the anti-terrorist officers in the warehouse – yafka in the basement of an apartment building on Aglauridon Street in Pagrati.

How it was revealed

The yafka was revealed when prospective buyers of the warehouse together with the owner opened its lock and found the heavy weaponry. They called Immediate Action and police cordoned off the area.

In total, the police found:

  • -3- grenades,
  • submachine gun,
  • -6- firearms, various parts of weapons, magazines and a number of cartridges,
  • -25- detonators,
  • -7.5- kilograms of ammonium dynamite,
  • -3- kilos of gelato dynamite,
  • -2- kilograms of TNT,
  • -220- grams of gunpowder,
  • slow burning fuse,
  • -37- kilograms of ammonia nitrate,
  • fake license plate and laptop.

Who does it allegedly belong to?

According to police sources, Yafka allegedly belongs to a terrorist organization that has been dismantled or deactivated. “It was locked in a very strange way, not like ours,” said a resident of the apartment building.

In 2019, unknown persons had broken into all the warehouses of the apartment building, except for the one that hid the heavy weaponry. Police have collected fingerprints and genetic material in an attempt to identify its owners.
