He passed away this morning at the age of 91 Vefa Alexiadouwho was recently hospitalized at the “Papanikolou” hospital in Thessaloniki, as in recent years she had permanently settled in Chalcidice.

Vefa Alexiadou had been described as “our national cook” and had moved with her personal tragedies – in October 2014, her daughter Alexia died of a heart attack and on February 10, 2015, her second daughter, Angela, also passed away.

In June 2015, the loss of her beloved sister Voula followed, while her husband had already passed away since 2006.

In fact, she had revealed in an earlier interview that the house she lived in for the last few years is all that was left of all her wealth, which she spent on hospitals with the serious health problems she was facing.

Who was Vefa Alexiadou?

She was born in Volos on March 13, 1933. She was the wife of Konstantinos Alexiadis, a professor at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with whom she had two daughters,

He studied chemistry at Aristotle University and continued with special studies at Berkeley University in the USA on food hygiene, table decoration and modern culinary art.

Her cookbooks have been translated and two of them won prizes in 1998 and 2000 at the International Cookbook Fair in Perigueux, France. In the same exhibition, in the year 2000, she was awarded the highly honorable “Best Culinary Business Professional” award.

She started her television career in the first years of broadcasting the program Morning Coffee of ANT1. She cooked with almost all the presenters of the show such as Roula Koromilas, Popi Hatzidimitriou and Eleni Menegaki.

As she had revealed, she worked at Morning Coffee without being paid since the agreement with the station was to present her cookbooks.

In 2003, she presented on Mega, the show entitled The Secrets of Vefa and in 2009 the show In the kitchen with Vefa on the Alter channel.

In the European elections of 2024, she was a candidate with LAOS.
