50 Best Latin America has seven restaurants in SP among the best; discover the menus

For the second year in a row, Rio de Janeiro hosted the ceremony that announced the best restaurants in Latin America in the 50 Best, one of the main gastronomy awards in the world, this Tuesday (26).

In the list of the 50 best regional cuisines, there are six restaurants in São Paulo. Casa do Porco, run by chef Jeferson Rueda, remained the best-placed address, in 15th, but dropped 11 positions compared to last year. Last year he came in 4th place. Another novelty is the entry of Tuju, in 16th, and Kotori, in 50th.

The ranking is created based on the votes of 300 judges, which include chefs, establishment owners, critics and gastronomic journalists.

The Pig House, 15th

Led by chef Jefferson Rueda, the restaurant is the best-ranked Brazilian restaurant in the 50 Best. To discover the restaurant’s menu, which features pork as its protagonist, you can try the restaurant’s tasting menu, which costs R$290 per person. Named Interior, it has eight stages, such as the one that brings the pork tartare with curd and caruru and the pork broth with miso and tucupi. À la carte, there are sausages, portions, dishes and sandwiches.

Evvai, 20th

The signature restaurant by chef Luiz Filipe Souza, who won two Michelin stars, mixes Italian and Brazilian cuisine. It only serves a tasting menu, which has just been renewed. Priced at R$895 per person, it has 13 stages and features recipes such as scallop bomb in duck fat.

Maní, 35th

Helena Rizzo, who was once voted the best female chef in the world by 50 Best, gives prominence to Brazilian ingredients in her one-star Michelin restaurant, run in partnership with chef Willem Vandeven. Customers can order à la carte dishes or try the tasting menu, priced at R$680 per person. The sequence, available at lunch and dinner, includes 14 steps, such as cassava starch mixed with chicken liver cream with a reduction of cocoa honey and nibs.

Metzi, 27th

Chefs Luana Sabino and Eduardo Ortiz prepare modern Mexican cuisine with a Brazilian touch. The duo serves an eight-course tasting menu, for R$440 per person, and à la carte dishes. Among the suggestions, mole verde served with broccoli tamal and fresh cheese (R$76) and Duroc pork al pastor with pineapple butter, to eat in tortillas (R$175). To accompany it, the house recently launched a signature drinks list and wine selection.

Nelita, 26th

Chef Tássia Magalhães runs the restaurant made up of an all-female team in the kitchen. The menu has an Italian soul and there are à la carte dishes and an 11-course tasting menu at dinner – it costs R$590 per person and reservations are required. Bringing references from Vale do Paraíba, the region where she was born, the chef presents recipes such as marinated zucchini served with beurre blanc sauce and cappelli stuffed with smoked eggplant.

Tuju, 16th

Chef Ivan Ralston’s signature restaurant, reopened last year, debuted on the list. Based on research into Brazilian ingredients, in partnership with Katherina Cordás, the chef created a 12-course seasonal menu. Called Moisture, it features creations such as zucchini flower stuffed with pumpkin and foie gras, served with aged free-range duck, and tapioca shumai with pork and peas. The restaurant is only open at night with the tasting menu, which costs R$990.

Kotori, 50th

Designed by Thiago Bañares, owner of Tan Tan and The Liquor Store, the restaurant’s main attraction is creations based on organic, tracked chicken. The lean menu includes suggestions such as the chicken wing terrine, served with kikurage mushrooms and green parsley, for R$65. Desserts include Japanese milk bread toast and English cream with milk ice cream, which costs R$ 48. Drinks start at R$35.
