The Three-member Court of Misdemeanors found him (again) guilty of manslaughter, while he is already “counting” an irrevocable conviction for the death of a 42-year-old woman
A doctor was convicted by the Court of Appeal for the death of a 24-year-old man from Keramoti, Kavala, after gastric bypass surgery in May 2017.
The Three-member Misdemeanor Court of Appeal of Thessaloniki found him (again) guilty of negligent homicide, imposing a 3-year prison sentence, redeemable for 5 euros/day (from a redeemable 4-year sentence in the court of first instance).
This is the doctor who was charged with the death of the 14-year-old girl from Epanomi, Thessaloniki, in June 2021, after a similar surgery, a case for which he was referred to be tried in a Mixed Jury Court facing the act of fatal exposure and was imposed the restrictive condition not to participate in surgical operations pending trial.
He, according to documents read in court, “counts” already an irrevocable conviction (3 years in prison) for the death of a 42-year-oldafter a similar surgery.
“I have 20 years of experience and I deal exclusively with the gastric band – I have done this operation 2,500 times. Unfortunately, he developed complications that were fatal and he lost his life,” the accused doctor said, among other things, during his apology for the case of the 24-year-old overweight man, stressing that he performed all the medical actions required by his science.
With the same decision, the Court acquitted a doctor from the Kavala hospital, where the patient had been treated after the complications that occurred in his health (he had been sentenced at first instance to 20 months in prison, with a 3-year suspension).
