Since Friday night, two well-known people in the society of Ilia have been in the hands of the police who, since May 2023, have been blackmailing the Deputy Governor of Ilia, Nikos Korovesis.

The two people – a lawyer and a freelancer – were arrested and are being held, while the involvement of at least 3 other extortionists is being investigated.

The ring was blackmailing the Deputy Governor of Ilias, asking him for significant sums of money, in order not to post his personal moments and conversations on social media, threatening him that they would “finish him politically and socially”.

According to patrisnews, the mastermind is said to be the freelancer, who appears to be the person who communicated verbally and through messages with the Deputy Governor.

In fact, twice in the past she convinced him, emotionally draining him, to give in to blackmail and pay the team the first time 3,000 euros and the second 16,000 euros.

The second time, a private agreement was also signed, which is revealed by eff. “Country”.

The document is signed by the person in question, as a written promise that he will not proceed with any financial demand and new extortion in the future.

However, the said group continued to blackmail the Deputy Governor. This time Mr. Korovesis was threatened with a lawsuit for defamation. “Be careful what you show and where, because K.M. he is annoyed and will sue you. Give him the 50,000 euros he is asking for,” the alleged mastermind of the extortion group allegedly told Nikos Korovesis.

In fact, he “lowered” the financial requirement from 50,000 to 20,000 and then to 13,000 euros.

Despite the misgivings he had about the impact of his act on his family, Nikos Korovesis announced to legal advisers his intention to no longer succumb to blackmail.

He visited his lawyer’s office in Amaliada and gave an amount of 13,000 euros to the lawyer of the group of extortionists.

He had earlier alerted the security, who raided the law office and found in the pockets of the lawyer-representative of the extortionists the amount in question, in pre-marked banknotes.

The chronicle of blackmail

The case begins in May 2023, during which time Nikos Korovesis was the Deputy Governor of Culture and Tourism. Then, he was approached for the first time by a Pyrgiotis freelancer, who blackmailed him by threatening to publish his private moments, asking for large sums of money.

The first two extortions

In particular, the first approach was made by a lawyer of Pyrgos who requested 3,000 euros on behalf of the businessman. After some time, a lawyer from Amaliada appeared again, this time asking for 18,000 euros, so that personal messages would not be made public this time. In this case, the money was deposited by a friend of the victim who asked the alleged blackmailer to sign an affidavit stating that no personal records of Mr. Corovesi.

This particular document is expected to play an important role in the case, since its existence proves everything that Mr. Korovesis but also that the undersigned has in his possession the inappropriate files in question.

The third extortion that resulted in… arrests

Ten days ago there was a new attempt to extort Mr. Korovesi from the well-known businessman. This time another lawyer appeared and asked for the amount of 50,000 euros (!), on behalf of a different person.

In fact, the alleged mastermind also appeared, to… advise Mr. Korovesi to pay the money in order to avoid a defamation lawsuit, reducing the original amount first to 20,000 and then to 13,000 euros.

In collaboration with his legal advisors, Thodoris Antonopoulos and Maki Papagiannopoulos, they addressed the police and after informing them of the events, it was decided to set up a police operation in the latter’s office in Amaliada, which had been designated as a meeting place of the Deputy District Governor with the lawyer- representative of the extortionists to give them the pre-marked money. Thus, yesterday afternoon, the police authorities arrested the lawyer and the private person who was with him.

In fact, according to reliable information, the police authorities are continuing the investigations for the arrest of the other persons involved.
