The biggest battle of her life, winning the winner, was given by AO Thira athlete, Alicia Volomi. The American (with Canadian nationality) volleyball player, who is fighting for the Volley League, revealed that she has managed to beat cancer, sending a shocking message of life and hope through social media.
Holmins revealed that the people of AO Thira played a decisive role in her diagnosis and eventually saved her life, as they reacted immediately to the first signs of the disease.
The international athlete underwent 8 rounds of chemotherapy, 3 surgeries and 25 radiation sessions, before announcing that he is now in recession.
The post he made on Instagram
“This year, gratitude has a different feeling. It is heavier, deeper and simpler at the same time. Because after 8 rounds of chemotherapy, 3 surgeries and 25 radiation sessions, I can finally say that I am in recession.
The past year was the most difficult of my life, physically, mentally and emotionally. But even in the darkest intervals, I was surrounded by light. I learned what true love and support mean, how true durability feels, and how strong the people around me are.
I wouldn’t be here without my team, AO Thira, who took my symptoms seriously from the beginning. They did quickly, and these first decisions and exams saved my life. I was guided by world -class doctors and nurses at Cancercare Manitoba, who took me from the diagnosis of recession in less than a year. I know well how rare this is. They treated me and my family with compassion, knowledge and humanity at every step, and I am grateful for the privilege of having access to such care.
In the midst of all this, I was still lucky enough to live. I married the man of my life, welcomed a tripod hairy daughter to our family, celebrated love and life with friends and relatives close and distant, and I had moments of laughter that reminded me that there was still so much beauty, even in the most difficult times.
I am also incredibly grateful to Volleyball Canada who supported me all the time, kept me connected to the sport and reminded me that recovery is not just about the body. Their support has helped me stay focused on what is coming: Returning to the stadium.
This next chapter is to rebuild the power, to find my pace and to return to the game. It will be a new challenge, but a challenge I welcome. I am here, heal, and I have the opportunity to do what I love – something I will never take for granted.
This year reminded me that what really matters in life is health, love and people who make the battle worth it. I don’t know what awaits me, but I know I’m grateful forward, stronger and more myself than ever”

The AO Thira’s response
“The administration of AO Hunting feels the need to express the emotion and its extreme enthusiasm for the joyous news of the return of the international Canadian central, alien volumes on the stadiums. A great event that transcends sports frames!
Alicia’s “ours” won with the bloc of her … life the struggle she had been having for a year with cancer. An unequal battle that the administration of AO Hunting, he supported quietly from the first moment. A test in which volume was never alone. Because he had the support of an entire island! The world that admired her on the court stands out for her morality, militancy, militancy and passion for victory.
But this victory of Alicia goes beyond sports! It is a source of inspiration and fills us all with faith and vigor to deal with our darkest fears.
Alicia, we’re so proud of you! Your power and light fill us with hope. You were and you will always be a member of the AO family. Hunting”
