Central Macedonia and Thessaly are on red alert – Messages from 112 are expected, according to PPKK minister Vassilis Kikilia
The “Bora” bad weather is in progress, with rains and storms affecting several regions of Greece and snowfall in the most mountainous parts.
In particular, the intense rainfall that has been occurring since the early hours of the morning has caused problems on the island of Limnos and in the area of Kontias, with flooding phenomena occurring. The volume of water also caused problems in houses in the village, while the roads turned into rivers and cars were swept away.
In fact, on Saturday morning, a warning message was sent by “112” to the residents of the area. As the message states, “Warning message due to the occurrence of severe weather phenomena (storms, floods) in the area of Lemnos. Avoid your movements and follow the instructions of the Authorities”.

The rains and storms have also caused problems in Northern Greece, including Thessaloniki, while snowfalls have occurred in western Macedonia.
As seen in the videos posted by the Forecast Weather Greeceheavy snowfall occurred in Pisoderi Florina, in the ski resort of Voras Kaimaktsalan and in Nymphaeum Florina.
According to the police, the use of chains or winter tires is necessary on the mountainous road network of the prefecture, as well as on the Florina-Krystallopigi National Highway.
So far no problems have arisen from the snowfall that has started since last night as the snow plows and salters have been working non-stop to keep the networks open and clear.
The temperature in western Macedonia today will range from 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.
A meeting was held at the Ministry of Civil Protection and Climate Crisis, in the presence of Minister Vassilis Kikilia, to prepare for the onset of bad weather. The state apparatus is on standby and Northern Greece and Thessaly are on red alert, where “112” messages are expected.
The Minister of Civil Protection and Climate Crisis, Vassilis Kikilias, said:
“From this afternoon until noon tomorrow, we will have heavy showers, thunderstorms and gale-force winds of 8, 9 and 10 Beaufort across the Central Macedonia. That is why we will issue 112, as in Thessaly, mainly in its northern and eastern parts, for the same period of time. Special attention is needed, as the effects will be very strong and intense.
There is also bad weather, which is being controlled by our meteorologists and will, it seems, pass through Attica in the evening and early morning hours, which we will be able to say more about a little later in the day.
In general, bad weather will exist throughout Greece. So, in the areas I mentioned above, namely Central Macedonia and Thessaly, it is a red alert and 112. For the other areas I mentioned, it will probably be at orange or yellow level, depending on the phenomena, as they will develop. We have already notified since yesterday, from the Civil Protection War Room of the ESKEDIK, all agencies, municipalities and regions, and today we are coordinating with the Greek Police, the Fire Brigade, the Civil Protection, the Armed Forces and both degrees of the local government, as well as the concessionaires of the highways by region.
It’s two days of bad weather for the country. Please pay close attention and let’s listen to the announcements – and in places – about those that may arise. Mayors, vice-mayors, regional governors, as far as local phenomena are concerned, immediately notify ESKEDIK and take action accordingly. I’m begging you, for the next two days, be extra careful.”
