The inauguration of the Thessaloniki Metro is currently taking place at the Pylaia station, in the presence of the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou and with a speech by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Then, around 1 p.m., the project will be handed over to the citizens of Thessaloniki, who will be able to get to know the 13 modern stations, making use of the medium for free until Tuesday, December 3.

Watch the Prime Minister’s speech live at the event for the delivery of the Thessaloniki Metro.

From Wednesday 4/12, a ticket of 0.60 euros will be valid, the same for the Metro and city buses, which is reduced by 30 minutes from the 0.90 euros it costs today on city buses. The cost of the monthly travel card will amount to 16 euros.

The main line of the Thessaloniki Metro, delivered today, is 9.6 kilometers long, from the new Railway Station to New Switzerland, with two independent single-track tunnels, 13 stations and the entire route takes 17 minutes.

It is estimated that it will serve 250,000 passengers daily.

It has 18 state-of-the-art super-automatic trains, fully air-conditioned, which will move without a driver, but with an attendant, and automatic doors. At the end of 2025, the extension of the Metro to Kalamaria, with an additional 5 stations, will be put into use, while the plans include the extension to the western and northern districts of Thessaloniki.
