A “smart” park of the future

The park, according to data that has been presented, will be the first “smart” park in Greece, incorporating solutions that will ensure the safety of visitors and the preservation of the natural environment. Includes:

-Lighting systems that adjust the intensity depending on the season and time of day.

-Systems for continuous monitoring of environmental conditions.

-Energy and water saving technologies.

-Technologies for efficient waste management

But also a series of other “intelligent” systems, which aim to make Hellinikon’s infrastructure a model at national and international level.

Sustainability at the heart of design

The park was designed based on the principles of sustainability, focusing on the biodiversity of Attica. Over 1,000,000 new trees and plants will enrich the existing vegetation, which is integrated into the design. As a small first sample, LAMDA Development has announced that it has already implemented one of the largest transplants ever made in Greece. About 3,000 trees, which were inside Elliniko, were protected, transplanted to special nurseries, maintained, and in due time will return back to Elliniko.

As has been pointed out, the innovative, modern infrastructure will fully cover its irrigation and electrification needs, while structural elements of the old airport are reused in the new park, reducing the carbon footprint of the construction. It is estimated that within the first years of the park’s operation this footprint will have been fully compensated. Lamda Development aims for The Ellinikon Park to be the first park in Greece with SITES Certification, a certification for sustainable and durable outdoor spaces.
