A government echelon visited the affected areas of Lemnos in order to coordinate steps for emergency management
On Monday, December 2, 2024, the government echelon, under the General Secretary for Natural Disaster Recovery and State Aid, Mr. Petros Kambouris, with the Secretary General of the Aegean and Islands Policy, Mr. Manoli Koutoulaki, visited the affected areas Lemnosin order to coordinate the steps for the management of emergencies and the recording and restoration of the damages caused by the recent severe weather phenomena that hit the island.
In the context of the visit, a meeting was held in the District of Lemnos, with the participation of the Member of Parliament of Lesvos and former Minister Mr. Charalambos Athanasiou, the Regional Governor of the North Aegean, Mr. Kostantinou Moutzouris, accompanied by the Prefect of Limnos and Agios Efstratiou, Mr. Apostolis Koutsoyiannis, the Deputy Regional Governors Mr. Kostantinos Aronis, Mr. Chrysostomo Hatzikyriazi and Mr. Angelos Vlatta – Lambrino, of the Mayor of Lemnos, Ms. Eleonora George, accompanied by the President of the Municipal Council Mr. Rose Kati and the deputy mayor, Mr. Evangelos Hasapis, of the port master of Lemnos, Pilot of the LS, Mr. Christos Kaltzounis, Brigadier General, Mr. Koufopoulos, the commander of the 88th SDI of Lemnos, the Vice President of the Board of Directors of the General Hospital of Lemnos as well as officials of the Region and the Municipality.
At the meeting, the framework of state aid was presented, focusing on measures both for the restoration of damage to networks and infrastructures, as well as the support of affected households and businesses, from the recent floods. In addition, practical instructions and directions were given to the competent services of the Municipality of Limnos and the North Aegean Region, for the rapid implementation of the work of autopsies on affected buildings, businesses and agricultural holdings.
Afterwards, there was an autopsy by the government echelon in the affected areas in the settlement of Kontia, in the Community of Thanos, but also within Myrina, in the areas where the stream overflowed. Finally, the team also visited the Myrina Fire Department.
