The all-electric Volvo EX30 SUV earns the maximum five-star rating in recent Euro NCAP safety tests
Even though it’s the smallest SUV we’ve ever owned, the Volvo EX30 proudly flies the flag of our well-known, traditionally world-leading position in automotive safety.
In fact, the EX30 just managed to score the maximum five-star rating in the latest round of Euro NCAP safety tests, confirming that our small, all-electric SUV keeps you and others safe in chaotic city traffic .
Euro NCAP is Europe’s leading independent car safety assessment program and helps customers make decisions based on the best possible information about the safety performance of cars on the market.
“While we always design our cars to be safe in the real world, not just to excel in safety ratings, this result emphatically attests to the safety that the EX30 provides,” says Ã…sa Haglund, Head of Safety Center at Volvo Cars. “With the EX30, we’ve taken city safety to the next level, creating a small SUV that cares about protecting you and other road users on busy city roads.”
Our smallest SUV, the EX30, is as safe as you’d expect from a Volvo. Incorporating safety systems developed through our unique safety expertise gleaned from over 50 years of real-world crash research, the EX30 is designed to help protect the driver and passengers in the event of a real-world crash. .
It achieves this through the latest technology in restraint systems, as well as a structural design that meets our pioneering internal safety requirements. These are demanding specifications that often exceed the official test requirements and were designed to prepare our cars for various real-world scenarios, which are sometimes much more complex than standard tests.
The EX30 incorporates our consistently high standards in passive safety and, in addition, is equipped with an advanced suite of active safety features designed to help you avoid or mitigate hazards and collisions. For example, an advanced driver alert system comes as standard and looks out for you in case you’re not at your best.
In the city, the EX30’s Automatic Intersection Braking is designed to help you prevent or mitigate intersection accidents. If another car suddenly finds itself in your path, automatic braking is designed to intervene and bring your car to a stop.
The EX30 also includes Door Opening Alert. The system can warn you with visual and audible signals, for example when you are about to open a door in the path of a passing cyclist. So-called “door incidents” are responsible for a significant number of collisions with two-wheelers. Door Opening Alert can help reduce these incidents.
