The former’s children are said to be searching for a surname King ConstantinePavlos and Nikolaos, in order to grant them Greek citizenship, an act that requires specific conditions on their part, such as

  • to be formulated before the Athens Registry with an explicit and unreserved declaration of respect for the Constitution, acceptance and recognition of the constitution and the result of the 1974 referendum,
  • to waive all claims related to the former office and
  • to be registered in the male registers or censuses, with first and last name.

“Titles of nobility are not allowed according to the Greek Constitution”the Minister of State told skai Makis Voridis. “What is needed now is facial identification, so a surname is needed”he added.

The last name that Pavlos has chosen for his family is De Greciawhich is also mentioned in the Danish passport held by the family members.

The Greek citizenship was taken away by the former King Constantine in 1994 and although he appealed to the European Court of Human Rightshe was not justified.
