The Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection, Andreas Nikolakopoulos, today signed a new decision for the conversion of the Corinth Penitentiary, from a Type A General Detention Center to a Special Penitentiary for crimes of an economic nature.

As emphasized in the relevant announcement, “it will exclusively hold defendants and convicts who have committed such crimes, as well as prisoners, in the context of forced execution of a civil court decision for monetary disputes between individuals or from tort, in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Code Code, of the Special Criminal Laws and the Code of Civil Procedure respectively. The publication of this decision in F.E.K. is expected.”

Mr. Nikolakopoulos said in a statement: “I feel a special joy and also a special honor that during our days at the Ministry of Citizen Protection we are proceeding to sign yet another very important decision. The Corinth Penitentiary is now being transformed from a Type A General Detention Center into a Special Penitentiary, where only inmates and convicts for crimes of an economic nature will be detained. We continue the methodical work and the interventions that are decisive for the modernization of our prison system”.
