It is in effect from last Friday 12/20 increased measure road safety ahead of the festive season of Christmasher New Year and of Epiphanywith the aim of the safe movement of citizens and the prevention of traffic accidents.

The measures will be deployed until January 8, 2025, while they will peak on the days of mass exit-entry of vehicles, to and from major urban centers.

The design of the measures includes:

– Policing the road network by sector, based on the particular traffic conditions of each region.

– Increased police presence and targeted policing at the points of the road network, where there is a frequency of traffic accidents.

– Increased traffic measures at the entrances and exits of large urban centers, where a lot of vehicle traffic is observed.

– Regulation of traffic with pedestrian traffic wardens, at key intersections, to avoid traffic congestion.

– Formation of general and special traffic control teams, focusing attention on the verification of dangerous violations (excessive speed, driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal overtaking, etc.), as well as violations that, based on statistical data, are responsible for causing serious traffic accidents ( use of mobile phones while driving).

– Increased traffic measures in places where there is a mass gathering of passengers (airports, ports, stations, etc.)

– Local traffic regulations, in which festive events will take place.

– Presence of traffic wardens at the Toll Stations of the Country to facilitate traffic, inform and advise drivers and passengers.

– Informing the citizens through the Communication Services, in any case where it becomes necessary to inform the public widely about the existence of any traffic and other problems.

At the same time, special importance will be given to the preventive and deterrent presence, through the implementation of traffic checks and drunkenness tests (alcohol tests) in order to deal with “dangerous” violations, which are the main causes, mainly of fatal traffic accidents

It is pointed out that throughout the implementation of the measures, both the staff and the means will be on increased operational readiness Greek Policemainly of the Traffic Police Services. Specifically, patrol cars, motorcycles and conventional vehicles will be made available, with the corresponding personnel and equipment for the effective policing of the country’s road network.

Traffic ban for lorries over 3.5 tonnes during the festive period of Christmas, New Year and Epiphany

In addition to the above measures and for the safer movement of vehicles and the improvement of road traffic during the Christmas, New Year and Epiphany holidays, apart from the facilitation and traffic measures, which will be taken at the local level, a ban will also apply circulation of all lorries with a maximum permissible weight of more than 3.5 tonnes.

Specifically for the exit stream, the traffic ban for trucks will be in effect today, Tuesday, December 24, 2024, Friday, December 27, 2024 and Friday, January 3, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., on Saturday, December 28, 2024 and Saturday, 4 January 2025, from 08:00 to 13:00, as well as on Tuesday 31 December 2024 from 15:00 to 21:00.

For the input current, the ban will apply on Thursday 26 December 2024, Wednesday 1 January 2025 and Monday 6 January 2025, from 15:00 to 21:00.
