“Christmas means love and understanding”, says the mayor of Athens in his message
The Reception and Solidarity Center of the Municipality of Athens (K.Y.A.D.A.) organized on December 25, 2024, a Christmas solidarity meal for our homeless and vulnerable fellow citizens, in the closed gymnasium of Roof, in the presence of the Mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas.
The Mayor of Athens, Harry Doukasnoted: “Christmas means love and understanding. To help as much as we can and to give the gift of giving. In the Municipality of Athens, through the Reception and Solidarity Center, we try to do this every day and not only during the holidays. I wish everyone a Merry Christmas.”
The president of the Reception and Solidarity Center of the Municipality of Athens (K.Y.A.D.A.), Tzini Gennimata, said in her turn: “This Christmas holiday is an opportunity to show our humanity to our most vulnerable fellow citizens. We are all one big family. We invite everyone to participate and contribute in whatever way they can, because solidarity is the best gift we can give this holiday season.”
The 2,300 “meals of love” for Christmas (1,300) and New Year (1,000) are an offer from Lidl Hellas. In addition, the company donated 1,000 plush dolls, 250 toys and 300 fairy tales.
The Municipality of Athens warmly thanks the supporters of the work of K.Y.A.D.A. who contributed to the festive season of Christmas 2024.
Specifically:
- The Megali Bretagneia hotel for the 200 meals at Hestia of Athens and Metadrasis.
- Coca-Cola for the 440 meals for four Sundays in a Multipurpose Center for the Homeless.
- Electra hotels for the 250 meals at the Multipurpose Homeless Center and the collection and distribution of gifts to 80 children of beneficiary families.
- The Quest group for strengthening the packages given by the Citizens’ Mutual Aid Hub.
- Beverage World, for the gifts and festive sweets for the elderly homeless people of Hestia of Athens.
- The company Kotsovolos, for the gifts to the 28 guests of Hestia of Athens.
- Aegean, for the festive packages of sweets (500 honey macaroons and kourabiedes).
- The Athens Stock Exchange for food, medicine and gifts for the children of the Citizens’ Mutual Aid Hub.
- The Politis Group, for honey macaroons and kourabiedes for 150 beneficiary families.
- The KAUSIS company for food and clothing.
- The Euroclinic for gifts to 150 children up to 12 years of age and festive sweets.
- The Costeas Geitonas School of Pallini for the 50 gift packs with personal hygiene products.
- The Municipal Police for the buns and their support for the children of the beneficiary families of the KYADA.
- The New Acropolis for clothes at the Citizens’ Mutual Aid Hub.
- The 13th Athens High School for Christmas gifts for 30 families with children.
- Dorothy Snot Kindergarten for Books.
- The 1st High School of Kalyvia for food and toys.
- The Gerakas Art School for the clothes and carols at the Cafe of the Multipurpose Homeless Center.
Finally, they also thank the employees of K.Y.A.D.A. who made sure that no one was left without a gift this Christmas.
