In an atmosphere of intense emotion, the unveiling of the monument of Police Chief Giorgos Lyggeridis, who was a victim of gang violence a year ago in Rentis, took place today.

Earlier, at the scene of the murder, the annual memorial service was also held in memory of the MAT police officer.

Today, Friday, December 27, the 31-year-old police officer died after being hit by a naval flare on December 7 outside the “Melina Merkouri” stadium, during incidents while a volleyball match was in progress.

Along with the unveiling of the monument to the wronged policeman, the street where he died was renamed “Georgios Lyggeridis”.

Present at the ceremony were the family of Giorgos Lyggeridis who, moved, spoke of “a small but important consolation”, as well as that the young policeman will not be forgotten and will always live in our hearts”.

The ceremonies in memory of Giorgos Lyggeridis were carried out by the municipality of Nikaia – Ag. I. Rentis and the Panhellenic Federation of Police Officers (POASY).
