The constants caused concern seismic vibrations in Attica and Cretewith the scientists however appearing reassuring on their part. Speaking to and in “Today» the professor of Geology and Natural Disaster Management, Efthymios Lekkasspoke of a “natural process” that just happens in a densely populated area, pointing out that if these earthquakes happened in any other part of the country, no one would pay attention.

“From December 12th we have the beginning of seismic activity in the area of Papagou-Cholargou, Agia Paraskevi, Chalandriou, Paleo Psychiko, where they are of small size without exceeding 3.7 Richter, surface earthquakes and at a shallow depth, that’s why they become intense noticeable in the evening hours”, as Mr. Lekkas, while adding that “the faults that cause these earthquakes are not long, with the largest one in the area being 2-3 kilometers, so with this reasoning they cannot cause larger earthquakes”.

Regarding a possible connection with the Parnitha fault, he appeared reassuring and clarified that the faults in Attica are not connected to each other, so they cannot cause more intense seismic activity in Attica. “Consequently, these earthquakes I estimate will continue for a few more days, without any concern, without troubling us at all,” he noted.
