The Holy Community invites all pilgrims to apply and receive approval at least one day before their arrival, by 12:00 p.m.
New strict measures for the access of pilgrims, which will come into force from January 1, 2025, the Holy Community of Mount Athos announced, wanting to preserve the monastic life and the prayer program, also due to the increasing traffic.
As reported by ekklisiaonline.gr, according to the new regulations, the maximum number of pilgrims that can be accommodated is strictly limited as follows:
Communal Pilgrimages: Maximum number of 200 pilgrims per month.
Central Churches of other Scythians: Maximum number of 50 pilgrims per month.
Cells: Maximum number of 20 pilgrims per month.
Invitations should be sent to the Pilgrims Office no later than 12:00 p.m. the day before arrival. Additionally, groups of more than 5 people will not be allowed unless they are students, schoolchildren, youth or military personnel.
Access will only be permitted by official invitation, while moving or requesting accommodation in other Cells or Monasteries without prior approval is strictly prohibited.
During major holiday periods, there will be temporary flexibility, but only with the approval of the Pilgrimage Office.
The Holy Community invites all pilgrims to apply and receive approval at least one day before their arrival, by 12:00 PM, to avoid overcrowding.
The Holy Community, as the highest administrative, legislative and judicial body of Mount Athos, consists of 20 representatives of the monasteries of Athos, ensuring the orderly functioning of the Holy Land.
