“The management of the company and the political leadership must immediately find a solution to the daily problems we face with the obsolete rolling stock, the lack of personnel and spare parts because safety comes first,” the STASY Employees’ Union states in a statement, on the occasion of a malfunction incident that recorded in the Athens Electric on New Year’s Day “when train doors opened in motion”.

In particular, as the employees state, the serious incidents of malfunction follow one another. “On 12/30 a train was emitting smoke at the Moschatos station and yesterday 01/01 during the early hours of the morning another train opened all the doors on one side between the Ano Patision and Perissos stations while in motion without handling” they report.

According to the same announcement, the highly trained staff acted immediately when they realized the problem, anticipating the worst in both incidents. “The trains are withdrawn immediately, checked and we all know that due to their age they will probably present some problem again. Employees selflessly strive every day to provide safe transportation despite huge understaffing problems in all operation and maintenance specialties, lack of train availability and facilities in need of immediate renovation,” the workers point out.

Finally, they call on the management of the company and the political leadership to find a solution to the daily problems “they face with the obsolete rolling stock, the lack of personnel and spare parts because safety comes first.
