Two 41-year-old prisoners, of Albanian origin, sentenced to 20 years in prison for serious crimes such as murder, robbery and arson, they escaped on Thursday night from the Rural Prisons of Kassavetia.
According to ERT, their disappearance was discovered at 9 pm, immediately mobilizing the police forces to locate them.
The fugitives were held since 2019 in the Rural Prisons of Kassavetia, where they had been placed in an unfenced area due to good behavior. Their room was only checked a few times a day by the staff.
The two men, who had received five furloughs through 2024, took advantage of their return from the last furlough a few days ago to plan and execute their escape.
Their escape has caused concern for the authorities, as the escapees are considered dangerous due to their heavy criminal records, while questions are being raised about the security measures at the penitentiary. Investigations are underway to locate them.
