A 71-year-old man is intubated in the second ICU of Papanikolaou Hospital, in Thessalonikiwith symptoms of pneumoniaaccording to ertnews.gr. Initially, the patient was referred to a private clinic, however, due to the seriousness of his condition, he was finally transferred to Papanicolaou hospital. There his health deteriorated and he was intubated.

He was tested and diagnosed in the ICU with HMPV virus that is currently on the rise in China. He is being treated in isolation.

According to information, the patient’s daughter went to China for a few days’ vacation and, a few days after she returned, her father fell ill.

At the same time, scientists in our country appear reassuring, attributing the spread of HMPV in northern China to an expected seasonal outbreak of a virus that has been known since 2001.

Georgiadis: Examinations for possible mutation – We are not concerned

“We are trying to find out if there is any mutation of the virus because it has the characteristic of mutating easily and we want to see if it has any characteristics that are more dangerous”said the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis.

Speaking to ANT1, Mr. Georgiadis also said: “We are waiting for the detailed examination that we have requested in great detail.”

At the same time, he appeared reassuring, noting that “at this moment there is no particular reason for concern for Greece or Europe from the post-pneumonia virus”.
