A 50-year-old woman who was accused by her 43-year-old (former) husband of trying to strangle him with the cord of her mobile phone, after a fight between them, was sentenced to 20 months in prison, with a 3-year suspension, by the Single-member Criminal Court of Thessaloniki.

The disputed incident appears to have occurred in June 2022, in front of their minor children. “She attacked me like a savage because she saw me holding her mobile phone. Apparently he was afraid of something. Her eyes were shining, she was trying to suffocate me. I live for seconds, I put my hands as much as I could to protect myself”, said, among other things, the 43-year-old who is an officer of the Greek Army.

In her apology, the 50-year-old denied the act and claimed that she is the real victim of domestic violence by her husband. “This particular incident was the icing on the cake.” I have suffered emotional and psychological abuse,” he said, adding that they are now living apart. For this specific incident, she stated that she did nothing, stressing that she only pulled him by the top to take her cell phone. “It is outrageous that he accuses me, obviously I had no such intention,” he said.
