Hooded men broke away from the ongoing march for the Tempe tragedy and threw rocks and Molotov cocktails at police forces
Incidents occurred during the rallies for the Tempe tragedy in Athens and Thessaloniki.
According to ELAS, in the capital so far they have taken place 12 arrests and 1 arrest, while 4 police officers were injured.
In particular, earlier on Sunday in Athens, a group of about 20 hooded men heading from Syntagma Square approached the police forces and threw a shower of Molotov cocktails.

The police tried to repel them using chemicals, causing the people who were at the scene to move away. The episodes started on the lower side of the square, on Filellinon Street.
Then, according to the police, the group headed to Kolokotroni Street where they broke marbles and threw them at the police. The incidents continued in Propylaia where hooded men attacked the police forces with stones and other objects, who proceeded to use stun grenades and tear gas. So far, the Police have made one arrest.
Tension was also noted in Thessaloniki near the Railway Station. People in hoods broke away from the march that was underway for the tragedy in Tempi and threw stones and molotov cocktails at the police forces on Margaropoulou Street with the MAT forces responding with the use of chemicals.

“In the morning hours today, Sunday January 26, 2025, a gathering of approximately 30,000 people took place on the occasion of the train accident in Tempi, in the center of Athens.
“At the end of the events that took place in Syntagma Square as part of the gathering, during the gradual withdrawal process, a group of approximately -50- people, who used the crowd to hide themselves, broke away from it and moved towards the police forces in Filellinon Street, attacking them by throwing objects and molotov cocktails.
“The police forces, using the necessary means, repelled them and the individuals moved towards Stadiou Street and the Propylaia, once again manifesting successive and fierce attacks against the police forces, who moved regularly to de-escalate the tension, in order to leave the gathered safely.
“So far -12- people have been brought in and -1- arrested, while -4- police officers were injured and there was damage to official equipment”.
