Why is rowing inextricably linked to the city of Kastoria?
By Nicolas Bard
It’s early in the morning. The winter sun has begun cowardly to make its appearance, but the morning freezing creates a fog veil over the lake. However, for the children in the Kastoria Nautical Club the day has already begun, and are at the Group’s premises for the necessary training. The story of the group begins as early as 1957, and year after year, rowing is gaining more and more children in the city of Kastoria. As is well known, sport helps them not only to “build” character and discipline, but also strong friendships.
The training is done both in the closed and externally, in the lake, while the area is filled with childhood voices and energy. With the instructions of the coach and with complete dedication, the athletes carry the boats to the lake, and they are getting ready to start. This is a time -consuming process, but their movements are perfectly synchronized and stable. They have done it many times and have learned to move like a body. In very little the pier will be filled with the athletes’ shoes, which have now scattered the lake. All this, of course, under the alert look of the coach, following them with an inflatable, and gives the necessary instructions.
In the center of the large hall of the Group we find a swimming pool, among which there is a static boat, where young athletes learn to rowing, while there are various fitness organs. The medals and distinctions of the group are of course prominent, which despite the difficulties and lack of funds continue to grow, and make Kastoria famous worldwide.
The camera of “where there is Greece” traveled to Kastoria and the city’s naval group, introduced us to his people, and explained why rowing is in the DNA of Kastorians.
