Nikolaos de Gree and Golden Vardinoyannis are getting married this afternoon at the historic Church of St. Nicholas Ragava, in the Anafiotika of Plaka, in a simple ceremony with few and exquisite guests, mainly relatives and friends.

As it is already known, instead of crowns, the couple will exchange eternal vows of love, wearing crowns – the traditional crowns of the former royal family.

The crowns give a “blue -blooded” feeling but, for the Church, they symbolize the grace of the Holy Spirit that comes to the couple in the mystery, as well as the couple’s coronation as a queen and king in his new home.

KORONA WEDDING

The “wedding crown” was used to being worn by the bride or sometimes by the groom, at the wedding ceremony in many European cultures since antiquity.

Today, it is more common in the Orthodox Church (also known as Eastern Orthodoxy) and is mainly used instead of classic wreaths, weddings in Russia and other eastern countries.
