Petros Filippidis: His trial for serious acts of sexual violence begins today

Another case that reached the Court after the #metoo move that took place a year ago, by victims of sexual violence, opens today in the hall of the Mixed Jury Court before which the prominent actor is called to account for serious acts. Petros Filippidis.

The artist, who became known to the general public for his iconic comedic roles, is facing three charges of serious sexual violence against his female colleagues, for which he was sentenced to temporary detention last July.

According to information from the accused, the actor, who has been transferred to the Korydallos prison from the Tripoli store for days, will not be in the courtroom today, while the defense will claim in the court the serious pathological health problem of the artist. adjournment of the trial for a few days.

About 10 witnesses are expected to be examined in the case, including three well-known actors who were invited by the victims to contribute from the witness stand to facts related to the accused. They are Messrs. Katia Dandoulaki, Evelina Papoulias and Lena Drosaki. The latter, as well as other colleagues, such as Ms. Anna Maria Papacharalambous, have reported the accused both publicly and to the disciplinary body of the SEI, for specific acts and behaviors which, however, were not criminally investigated due to statute of limitations.

Petros Filippidis is being tried for one rape and two attempted rapes, acts for which he was accused by three of his colleagues who testified in the context of a public prosecutor’s investigation that the artist abused his position of power as an actor, director and charismatic.

The same refers to the panel issued for the referral of the actor by the Council of Criminal Procedure, which, adopting a similar prosecutorial proposal, decides that the accused “taking advantage of his position of power, known prestige and prestige in the field, being an actor, director, charismatic meetings with his victims on the occasion of receiving CVs, taking advantage of their trust in him and their need to find work … “

According to the indictment against him, the actor allegedly raped a colleague in 2008, an act that was done twice, as well as attempted to rape two other actors, in 2010 and 2014. In two of the cases the acts were performed in his dressing room, where for professional reasons his colleagues were there, while in the third case he tried to rape the actress in his car, after a business meeting he had with the then unemployed, I was suffering.

The accused himself denies the accusations, claiming that the complainants aim at their personal projection by slandering him.

However, the version cited is not accepted by the judges who in the referral panel decide that “there is no motive to slander the accused in order for (the victims) to gain publicity, as a long time has passed since the accused and if indeed the target of the victims they were to gain publicity, they would have denounced these criminal acts at an earlier time, when they were at the beginning of their professional career “.

In the opinion of the Judicial Council that ruled the case, the accused shows “continuous action for a long time (2008 to 2014) against more victims” while showing “extreme toughness, perseverance and analgesia during the attacks without being intimidated by strong resistance , the voices, the cries and the injury of the victims when they tried to escape “.

At the same time, as it is emphasized in the parliament, “he was unrepentant and fearless even after committing his acts, addressing vulgar expressions and threats against his victims”, a fact which demonstrates “particular danger as an element of his character and constant momentum in committing related crimes”.

The trial will take place in a room right next to the courtroom where the trial of Dimitris Lignadis is taking place, which continues today.
