More than 700,000 Olive Ridley turtles came out on Friday, February 21 at Rushikulya Beach in the eastern state of Odisha, India to give birth to their eggs.

It is a record number for this annual massive laying event, also known as Arribadawhich is a unique spawning phenomenon common to this kind of marine turtles.

Massive spawning began on February 15 and will continue until February 25, according to Rushikulya Maritime Turtle Protection Group Rabindranath Sahu.

Authorities have enclosed the boundaries of the area where turtles nest, one of the smallest sea turtles in the world. Once they arrive at the beach, the females dig a hole in the sand where they will give birth to more than 100 eggs, which will hatch about 50 days later during the night.

The sea turtle Olive Ridley, named after its oil -green crab, has been registered as a global union to maintain nature due to its number reduction.
