But there is also a request for change: The majority prefers cooperative governments (57%) and considers it necessary to simplify justice procedures (83%) or to strengthen industry instead of “monoculture” of a service economy (71%).
As for the international environment, Trump Policy is already affecting citizens’ perceptions. It is considered a threat to our country (with 31%, after Turkey’s “traditional” threat with 52%) and is expected to negatively affect US relations with Europe and the West with the rest of the world. Thus, a clear preference for greater EU strategic autonomy over the US (63% versus 34%) is highlighted.
It seems, therefore, that February 28th is not a breakthrough but a condensation of processes that have been incubating for a long time and now invading the political scene. In Greece, the crisis of political confidence is deepened, the Euro-Atlantic bond breaks down and destabilized the West, which is considered to have been in the course of decline (for 59%). A more authoritarian, more enclosed, more cynical world seems to be shaped. A world that does not fit into the specifications of post -war regularity that were primarily imposed by the US. But it is the world with whom we are forced to confront.
