He introduced himself as a supposed American soldier to a 52-year-old and communicated with her online, expressing his erotic interest in her. In reality, however, he was a swindler who not only had nothing to do with the American armed forces but under the pretext of love, extorted more than 40,000 euros from his victim.
The money, according to what the police announced, was supposed to be intended to alleviate some problems at the customs regarding the shipment of a parcel which would supposedly contain a large amount of money and was intended for the 52-year-old. In this way, the currently unknown perpetrator persuaded her to deposit various sums of money in bank accounts.
When the victim found out that she had fallen victim to fraud, she addressed the Cybercrime Prosecution Sub-Directorate of Northern Greece and a preliminary investigation was ordered by the Thessaloniki Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation that followed identified the involvement in the case of a 67-year-old to whose account the victim deposited part of the money. A case was filed against her, which was submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office, while the investigations for the identification of the alleged military continue.
