The Chinese BYD electric vehicle company unveiled a new charging platform on Monday that claims to be able to charge the battery of an electric car in a time similar to the supply of a petrol car.

At the same time, the company announced that it will develop its own charging network in China.

The so-called ‘super e-platform’ will achieve Charging Power 1,000 kWallowing cars that use it to cover 400 km distance. (249 miles) with just 5 minutes Charging, according to BYD founder Wang Tsouanfu, during a video recruitment from Chinese headquarters in Zenzen, as Reuters reports.

The 1,000 kW charging power is twice the one that currently offers its Partagers Tesla.

Quick charge technology is a critical factor in enhancing the adoption of electric vehicles, as it will help overcome the barrier of charging time that is considered to prevent many buyers.

“In order to deal with the stress of charging our users, we have sought to make the charge of electric vehicles just as short as the refueling of a gasoline car“Wagank said, among other things.

“This is the first time in the industry that has been able to charge a power of 1 megawatt,” the BYT founder added.

The new charging technology will initially be available on two BYD electric models, the Han L and the SUV Tang L, whose price starts at $ 37,329.

As far as the charging network is concerned, the company announced that will have more than 4,000 points. Byd did not provide a specific timetable for the development of the charging network, nor did it reveal the amount of investment.

To date, BYD vehicle owners have been using the installations and charging stations of other automakers or public charging stations operating third -party companies.

Tesla has been providing China’s gearboxes since 2014, and smaller Chinese companies, BYD competitors, such as Nio, Li Auto, X Peng and Zeekr systematically investing in the development of charging stations for years.
