In the implementation of a new plan of the “Housing and Work for the Homeless” program, the Municipality of Athens is proceeding, with the aim of social and working reintegration of individuals, as well as families who either live in conditions of housing, or are hosted in municipal structures.

The new EUR 1,120,000 plan approved by the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family, will ensure subsidized housing, training and work for 46 households (60 homeless). The housing supply is about covering the rent for 24 months in autonomous apartments. It is also foreseen to cover household and operating costs, work and training subsidy, psychosocial support, labor counseling, interconnection and referral to competent and specialized services.

“It is a very important program, with a serious social impact, that ensures the definitive and dignified integration of our vulnerable fellow human beings into social events,” said Athens Mayor Haris Doukas, adding: “To date, the Municipality of Athens has been implemented by 15 children, Through their participation in the program, 82 people found work, achieving a 70% work reintegration rate against the initial forecast, ranging from 20%. Our goal is to be no one alone, and no one alone in our city, so we stand next to those in need. “

The program can include people hosted in housing structures, namely the Homeless Transition Hostels, the Homeless Day Open Center, the Sleeping Hospital, the Hostel for Women’s Victims of Violence and their children and their social residence or live on the road. People who are served by affiliate bodies are also given the opportunity to join the doctors of the world – Greek delegation, the RESPONS, as well as the programs of reintegration of dependent women and men of the 18 upper -Psna.

The process of evaluating the candidates, which come from these structures, is currently underway, while program executives are making contact with apartment owners and brokers to join the program.

The implementation of the project is controlled by the Management Authority of the Organization of Welfare and Social Solidarity (OPECA) and the operator manager is Athens Development SA.
