OR Permanent Special Scientific Committee for Estimation of Seismic Risk and Reduction of Seismic Risk and the permanent Scientific Committee for the Hellenic Volcano Bill of OASP met today Friday, 21/03/2025 (17:00), to examine issues related to the current seismic and volcanic activity in the wider area of ​​the island complex Santorini.

The meeting was held at Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protectionin the presence of Minister Yiannis Kefalogiannis, Deputy Minister Evangelos Tournas, and Lieutenant General Theodoros Vagia.

After discussion between committees and the presentation and examination of all data so far, the following are unanimously formulated:

-The seismic sequence in the marine area of ​​Anhydros between Thira and Amorgos is maintained at a low level. In the context of the seismic sequence, however, the sporadic manifestation of stronger earthquakes is not excluded.

-Although seismicity is low, we have not returned to the level before seismic exacerbation. Consequently, citizens should adhere to general self -protection guidelines.

-Extraordinary Civil Protection Measures in the island complex of Santorini must be observed in accordance with JMD 495, Government Gazette 1267/B/1-3-2025, (https://search.et.gr).

-The facilities and infrastructure may return to their usual operation, except in the cases provided for in JMD 495.

The committees will meet when it is considered appropriate.
