The Municipality of Athens today turns off the lights in 7 buildings for Earth’s time – this year’s “Earth Hour” in Greece is dedicated to the sea
For another year Greece participates in the World Initiative ‘Time of Earth’ Encouraging millions of citizens, organizations and businesses to turn off their lights for one hour, sending a strong message in favor of protecting the environment and climate action. This year, the action takes place today Saturday, March 22, from 20:30 to 21:30.
The campaign, launched in 2007 by Australia and now has a global impact, invites participants to “pause” on their activities, to turn off the lights and to spend some time on the planet according to Ertnews. This year’s slogan, as every year, is simple but possible: “One hour for Earth”.
#Earthhour – An Hour Dedicated to Mother Earth 🌏

The Greek participation is intense every year, with municipalities, bodies and ordinary citizens joining forces. For 2025, WWF Greece dedicates “Earth Time” to the sea, highlighting its decisive role for our country, both ecologically and culturally. The need to protect marine life, from whales to the Caretta Caretta turtles and the Mediterranean seals, is at the center of the campaign.
Although the act of turning off the lights is purely symbolic, the goal is to cause thought and awareness. “Earth’s time” is not just an hour without lights, but an opportunity to think about what more we can do everyday for the environment.
