Heavy rainfall has been in the last hours in the Cyclades, causing serious problems on many islands. In particular, a firefighter, civil protection and police, at least until tomorrow morning in Paros, Mykonos and Milos, is on the alert, on the occasion of severe weather. Paros was first in the “eye” of bad weather, when noon broke out on the island at noon.

Many cars on Naoussa’s main road to Kolymbithres were dragged, according to Fire Brigade officers and some of them reached the port.

The firefighters rescued two people, a car passengers who had been dragged by the rushing waters.

Helicopter could not approach Paros

In fact, 8 firefighters took off from Eleusis to reach the island of Paros, but over the Aegean prevailed extreme weather conditions, resulting in his return to Eleusis. At 19:00 in the afternoon the phenomenon seems to have been cut. However, it was transferred to the island of Mykonos and specifically to Chora.

From the noon hours, today, Monday (31/03/2025), the Fire Department Center received a total of 160 calls.

In particular:

  • 100 calls to Mykonos island, and five (5) water pumps have been made so far

To strengthen the forces on the island of Mykonos, 2 firefighters with 1 vehicle and 4 firefighters with 2 vehicles go from Tinos.

  • 60 calls on the island of Paros, and so far eight (8) water pumps and 13 transportation of people in safe places

To strengthen the forces on the island of Paros, 6 firefighters with 3 vehicles were transferred from Naxos.

Messages from 112

The bad weather, according to meteorological forecasts, is moving to Mykonos and Mylos, where according to the risk assessment committee convened by Civil Protection Minister Yiannis Kefalogiannis, locally heavy rains and thunderstorms will occur from intervals in most areas of the Eastern country. It is recalled that a message was issued by 112 about Paros and Mykonos to ban citizens and vehicles due to severe weather events that will last at least until tomorrow morning.

On alert and the armed forces

The Armed Forces for the provision of Civil Protection have also been put on alert, due to the EMY weather evolution of the EMY weather events. Specifically for the Cyclades, the management of construction and treatment of natural disasters to provide assistance is on the alert, in Paros or another area.

The temperature will not make a significant change and will reach 16 to 17 degrees and in the southern island country 18 to 19 degrees Celsius.

Civil Protection Recommendations

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection (civilProtection.gov.gr) of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection has informed the relevant government agencies involved, as well as the regions and municipalities of the country, in order to be on increased political protection in order to address the impact of the events immediately.

At the same time, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection recommends that citizens are very careful, ensuring that self -protection measures from risks come from the manifestation of severe weather.

In particular, in areas where heavy rainfall, thunderstorms or stormy winds are foreseen:

  • To insure objects that, if carried away by severe weather events, may cause disasters or injuries.
  • To make sure the houses and gutters of the houses are not clogged and function properly.
  • Avoid crossing streams and streams, pedestrian or vehicle during thunderstorms and rainfall, but also for several hours after the end of their event. Particular attention is needed at the road network, where the road intersects with torrents and there is no bridge.
  • Avoid rural work and activities in maritime and coastal areas during the occurrence of severe weather (thunderbolt risk).
  • Protected immediately during a hailstorm. To resort to a building or car and not leave the safe space unless they are confirmed that the storm passed. Quartzing can also be very dangerous for animals.
  • Avoid passing under large trees, under posted signs and generally from areas where light objects (eg pots, broken glass, etc.) can detach and fall to the ground (eg below balconies).
  • Follow the guidelines of the local authorities, such as Traffic Police, etc.
