Ford unveils the new Ranger Raptor, in which the Ford Performance puts its stamp giving the ultimate on-road and off-road performance. The big news for performance enthusiasts is the introduction of a brand new twin-turbo V6 3.0L EcoBoost petrol engine optimized by Ford Performance to deliver a maximum output of 288 hp and 491 Nm of torque. The current 2.0L EcoBlue bi ‑ turbo diesel engine will continue to be available in the new Ranger Raptor from 2023.
A range of Raptor-specific bases and reinforcements for components such as the C-pillar, cargo hold and spare base support the unique bumpstops, wheel arches and rear shock absorber mounts, ensuring that the next Ranger Raptor generation can handle demanding off-road conditions. The next generation of Fox 2.5 ″ Live Valve Internal Bypass shock absorbers adopt state-of-the-art technology, so that the damping is adapted to the shock absorber travel. These shock absorbers are the most advanced ever installed in the Ranger Raptor and have teflon oil filling that reduces friction by about 50% compared to those of the outgoing model.
The Ranger Raptor’s ability to move comfortably on uneven terrain is enhanced by the addition of enhanced protection to the lower body. The front apron is almost double in size compared to that of the base new Ranger and is made of high-strength steel, 2.3 mm thick. Combined with engine and transmission covers, this apron is designed to protect key components such as the radiator, steering, front transaxle, crankcase and front differential. For the first time, the Ranger Raptor is equipped with an advanced four-wheel drive system with a new, electronically controlled on-demand dual-gearbox (slow / fast), combined with front and rear locking differentials – a valuable item for its hardcore fans off-road driving.
In detail, the programs available in the new Ranger Raptor are the following:
For off-road driving: Normal (for comfort and fuel economy), Sport (more immediate response for inspirational on-road driving) and Slippery (for greater self-confidence when driving on slippery and uneven surfaces).
For off-road driving: Rock crawl (for optimal control when driving at very low speeds on rocky and rugged terrain), Sand (optimizes gear changes and power output to keep the vehicle moving smoothly on sand and deep snow) , Mud / Ruts (for maximum traction when starting and maintaining vehicle speed) and Baja (adjusts all systems to their most dynamic characteristics for top off-road performance at high speeds).
