Pontokomi Kozani is a vibrant village that fades after the state has decided to forced the expropriation of the historic old settlement
Kozani and Nea Pontokomi Kozani is a Pontian refugee village full of vibrancy that faded after the forced expropriation of 2011 to exploit the lignite surrounding it and a new, planned settlement – with just five families today.
The forced expropriation of the historic old settlement of Pontokomi was decided by the Greek state in 2007-2008, for the lignite reserves that exist in its subsoil, with the aim of supplying the new state-of-the-art steam station (AES)-Ptolemais 5.
The station was decided to take place in the same period 2007-2008 under ND with Prime Minister Karamanlis. (It should be noted from the outset that the operation of Ptolemais 5 was designed by the ND and built to operate with lignite at least until 2050, but Kyriakos Mitsotakis shortly after his election in 2019 decided to diminish and closed the station in 2028, while the cost of construction!
With the apoliticalization decided in 2019, the future of the inhabitants in both villages is unknown.
