The approval to rename the Gazi Streetin the area of Charilaou, in Alki Kampanouin memory of the 19-year-old student who lost his life on February 1 in murderous attack with fan motives, was given by the Committee for Naming – Renaming of streets, squares or neighborhoods of the Municipality of Thessaloniki in its today’s meeting.
The chairman of the municipal council of Thessaloniki and chairman of the Naming Committee Petros Lekakis stated to the Athenian / Macedonian News Agency that “from the first moment we agreed as a municipal council that the memory of the child who was killed in a fan attack and his death shocked all of Greece should be honored. “It is the least we can do as the municipality of Thessaloniki so that the memory of Alkis stays alive and this road reminds us that a similar incident should never happen again.”
The request for renaming of the street was submitted by him LET. Mars, who through a letter to the municipality of Thessaloniki requested the renaming of the street but also the placement of a votive plaque at the place where the 19-year-old was killed.
The votive plaque has been ordered by the municipal council of the central municipality to the Directorate of Urban Planning for the place where it will be placed. According to the suggestion, he will enter the building where 19-year-old Alkis lost his life, with the consent of the owners of the apartment building and the expenses will be covered by Amateur Aris.
