The Bit Pazar market was characterized as protected by the decision 3428/2016 of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. With the same decision, in addition, individual listed buildings in the wider area (in the Saul Gallery, in the area of ​​Agios Minas, in the Old Vegetable Market) were characterized and special conditions and building restrictions were determined, as well as special uses in the buildings – shops of Bit Pazar market. With the modification of the decision of the Deputy Minister of Interior with Α.Π. 435/15 -3- 2022, special uses are defined, if they are in accordance with the current provisions (eg urban planning, city plan regulation, etc.), for the ground floor shops of the Bit Pazar market, enabling second-hand shops to coexist, professional nuisance workshops, shops, cultural facilities and restaurants.

THE “purchase of antiques » was created by the “Building Cooperative for Refugees of Veterans (Bit Pazar) of Thessaloniki”, which was established in 1928, on the initiative of professional refugees of 1922-1923. It was the first time a cooperative had used land for its profession. The design of the study was then assigned to the famous engineers D. Fillizis and M. Rubens.
