More than 6 million movements were made during the first four months of the Thessaloniki Metro operation, while 12,000-15,000 fewer cars enter the city center per day, thanks to the use of the new steady track by the passenger public.

At the same time, Flyover is moving forward at rapidly, with the prospect of being released in about two years from today. Indeed, the summer is expected to arrive in the city the second transcendent metal “mold”, which will be placed on the Flyover highway, with the prospect of being used normally since September after being assembled. In addition, in the near future, the traffic cameras will be placed on the streets of Thessaloniki, which will record any violations, upgrading the level of road safety in the city.

The above were disclosed by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Dimas and the Deputy Minister of Interior (Macedonia-Thrace), Costas Giouleka, during today’s enlarged meeting of the Thessaloniki Coordinating Coordinating Coordination Council. For his part, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Nikos Tahaios, reiterated that the delivery of the subway extension project to Kalamaria, which has been described as “difficult exercise”, due to the existence of many different contracts, is expected to take place in February 2026. and Mayor of Ampelokipi-Menemeni Lazaros Kyrizoglou, the President of the PED. Central Macedonia and Mayor of Pylea- Chortiatis Ignatios Kaitezidis, the mayors of the Thessaloniki Town Planning Complex, the Presidents of the Chambers and the City Commercial Associations, the Administrations of the O. of the Health Regions and the KEPY-EKAB, the leadership of ELAS, the Traffic Thessaloniki and the Fire Department, as well as representatives of IMET-EKETA and the consortium of the project.

In the eight parallel construction sites in Fly Over, which he described as an innovative work for Greek data and unique in Greece, Mr Dimas mentioned – among other things -, who had a conference conference with the Sustainable Transport Commissioner and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzika shortly after the meeting. He reiterated that the goal is for the new elevated avenue, which would further soften traffic congestion on Thessaloniki’s regional road network, to surrender over two years. “The Government and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, in order to accelerate the process of completing this project, have agreed with the construction companies, with the contractors coming to a second mold, so that dual work can be done at Fly Over. Welcome to things, the new mold will be here in the summer. Then a assembly is needed and from September we hope it will be functional, “he said.

Regarding the second work of the Ministry of Transport in Thessaloniki, the subway characterized it as the most beautiful work of the kind he has ever seen, adding that, in addition to his aesthetics, the goal is to become more functional -so the extension to Kalamaria will be expanded until February 2026, “After February, we need to study circulation again and see the extra needs. But besides the subway and Flyover (…) now Thessaloniki also has new buses, much more environmentally friendly and with respect to all our fellow citizens -and those who have motor issues, “he said.

He added that at the expanded meeting of the coordinator he listened with great interest to the mayors, their proposals and their anxieties on issues arising from the big projects and how the best possible solutions could be found together. “We need cooperation, precisely because the ministry, but also the government, pay particular attention, not only in Thessaloniki, but in these two very important projects. Our intention, along with Nikos Tahaio, is to have almost daily management projects and monitor the evolution of the projects so that they can be completed normally, ”he concluded.

The assessment that the operation of the Coordinating Council to date has yielded fruit was made by Mr. Gioulekas, pointing out that this happened because “all the representatives of the agencies are sitting at a table, we discuss the problems, we find, we propose solutions and we synthesize the proposals”. Referring to the four -month subway function, he pointed out that it has already been recorded as a medium that improves the traffic conditions and psychology of the movement, upgrades the functioning of the city (…) »he announced. He added that the abolition of the bike lane on Niki Avenue helped greatly relieve traffic from the west side of the city to the east, according to Traffic, and was achieved by the placement of special flexible piles in the Metropolis. He also referred to the New Pediatric Hospital: “Yesterday we had the corresponding meeting with the representatives of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and representatives of Thessaloniki to settle all issues so that the new hospital was delivered to Thessaloniki and Greece in the beginning of 2027. So all this contributes to one thing: to improve the daily life of the citizen and, above all, to raise Macedonia and Thrace higher, ”concluded Mr. Gioulekas.

N. Tachiaos for the opening of Pontus

“Very happy” about the positive climate in the coordinator was said by Mr. Tachiaos, pointing out that there is a favorable spirit in general to the citizens of Thessaloniki, thanks to the fact that the subway, which was discussed for many years as anecdotal throughout the country, became a reality. “Of course, it is clear that we are not ending here. We still have a lot to do, which will allow what has already surrendered to the city to get better and what comes to be very good. My personal position is that what we deliver should not be the least, but be the best. Of course, the enemy of the good is the best, but it must be something that will respond with adequacy to the demands of the city in the period in which it is delivered. These improvements will now come to the subway, come to the base and will certainly make a lot more to contribute to what the subway has brought to the city and the tradition of the Kalamaria line, “he added.

Asked about the opening of Pontos Street in Kalamaria, given that the court on the issue of expropriations and the determination of the unit was postponed to Autumn, Mr. Tachiaos replied that the matter was concerned about the ministry and there were in progress with Unit. “We have two different strategies we are discussing. We will have developments in the near future. However, the subway will work even if Pontus has not been opened in its entirety. But Pontus will open to ensure accessibility from one station to another, which in addition to a functional issue, is also a matter of security, “he said. In relation to the Metro Terminal in Mikra and asked if something has changed in the original timetables of the project, he replied: “We cannot maximize. This is not the first priority right now. The first priority is the opening of Pontou Street, “he concluded.

The excellent cooperation with Christos Dimas, and his previous status, pointed out by Mr. Kirizoglou, adding: “We have today in Thessaloniki and Metro and ancient. The climate of doubt or even depressed that existed a year ago, when we were discussing both the subway and the flyover, no longer exists (…) Greek Local Government is always working with your ministry, as well as the mayors here in Thessaloniki and will work together,
