The study of the rehabilitation, promotion and reuse of Villa Paulorgi in the area of ​​Amberia, the city of Chania, begins with the signing of the relevant contract by the Mayor of Chania, Panagiotis Simandirakis.

Villa Paogiorgi has been designated by a decision of the Ministry of Culture as a work of art, which needs special state protection. It is one of the most important neoclassical buildings of Chania and is located between Krokida and Prevelaki streets, in the area of ​​Amberia, Chania, and was the mansion of the MP, Charalambos Pailogiorgis.

The original house was built by the family of Themistocles Pothitos around 1870 and included two buildings, a ground floor and a two -storey two -storey, while located on a plot of 827.20 sq.m. and grows on two levels with a surface of 336.67 sq.m. each.

From 1920 onwards it was used as a hospital and during the occupation, the Greek Red Cross was housed there.

After her restoration, Villa Payogiorgi is proposed to act as a cultural multipurpose for a variety of actions in the fields of contemporary art and applied arts (photography, cinema, engraving, sculpture, ceramics, graphic design, design, decoration, typography, comic books) Theodorakis, Municipal Art Gallery) and in complete complicity with the planned new cultural sites (Neoria, New Municipal Library), making Chania as a very remarkable center of culture in the Southeast Mediterranean.

The signing of the contract was held at the office of the Mayor of Chania, in the presence of the Vice Mayors of Culture and Technical Services, with Mr Simandirakis referring to “a great effort to use the important Chania cultural sites, by launching the restoration of yet another major project”. As he pointed out, “The important thing for the Municipality of Chania is that the cost of the studies has been secured, utilizing the money from the NSRF of Crete. The Municipality of Chania has entered the orbit of large projects, giving overall and meaningful answers to issues that have been pending for many years. “

The budget of the contract amounts to EUR 281,962, while the expense will be covered as announced by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and national resources under the NSRF 2021-2027. The total deadline for completing the subject of the contract is set at twelve months.
