Mercedes-Benz has introduced the new all-electric EQB model, which is also available in a five-seater. The two seats of the third row can be used by people up to 1.65 meters high, while there can be placed child seats. The new EQB will be released in Europe and China at the end of the year. It will be launched in the US market in 2022.

After the EQA, it is the second all-electric compact car in the Mercedes-EQ range. Powerful and efficient electric drive, smart retrieval and predictive navigation with electric intelligence are some of the features borrowed from EQA.

“With the new EQB we have designed an electric SUV that incorporates the square shapes of off-roaders and displays them in the future. Its silhouette is combined with futuristic elements, such as the black front panel “, says Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Daimler Group.

In Europe, the all-electric compact SUV will be launched as the EQB 300 4MATIC with 168 kW and as the EQB 350 4MATIC with 215 kW. The autonomies according to WLTP are 419 kilometers in each case. Other variations will follow to meet specific customer requirements, including a much larger version.

The dimensions of the five-seater are 4684/1834/1667 mm (length / width / height). The interior is generous. The trunk is flat and spacious. Provides capacity from 495 to 1,710 or 465 to 1,620 liters (numbers for five-seater and seven-seater, respectively).

The backs of the second row seats can be adjusted in several stages. This allows the boot to be enlarged up to 190 liters.

Optionally, the EQB has a third row of seats that includes two extra seats. The seats offer comfortable space for people up to 1.65 meters tall. Extended safety features include retractable head restraints, seat belt tensioners and power limiters on all exterior seats and a side window airbag that also covers third-row passengers. In total, up to four child seats can be placed in rows two and three, plus one more in the front passenger seat.

The EQB achieves very good aerodynamics, Cd from 0.28. The frontal area A is a total of 2.53 m2. Among the most important aerodynamic measures are the completely closed cooling air control system at the top, the aerodynamically efficient front and rear aprons, the almost fully closed bottom, the specially optimized Aero wheels and the specially adapted front and rear wheel spoilers.

Navigation with electrical intelligence also contributes to the easy operation of the EQB. Calculates the fastest route to a given destination. Based on continuous range simulations, the system takes into account any necessary charging stops, as well as many other factors, such as topography and weather. It is also able to react dynamically to changes, for example in traffic situation or personal driving style. In addition, Navigation with Electric Intelligence ensures that the high voltage battery is brought to the optimum charging temperature before a scheduled charge interruption, if required.
